A. I am the speech pathologist who provides speech services for students in grades K-5 here at Langley Elementary. My colleague, Brittany Rasansky, is the speech pathologist who provides speech services for the preschool students here at Langley.
Q. How did you become a speech therapist?
A. At a very young age, I knew that I wanted to work with children and help them achieve their optimal potential. I ventured into speech-language pathology because it would be a wonderful opportunity to facilitate a child’s ability to communicate efficiently and effectively. I obtained my undergraduate degree and put my skills into action. I worked as a pediatric speech therapist for over eight years. After many years of experience, I decided to pursue my master’s degree at Southern Connecticut State University, to refine and further enhance my skills. I have over 17 years of experience and I am passionate about what I do for a living. I am known to be fun-loving, silly, energetic, kind, and compassionate and I adore all children.
Q. What is speech therapy, and how do you provide it?
Q. What is a typical day for you at Langley?
A. I work with students in small groups all day Monday through Friday.
Q. Why is speech so important for a child’s development?
A. We want to make sure the student’s speech and language delay is not interfering with their academic success in the classroom. We want the student to be able to communicate their thoughts and ideas effectively in the classroom environment. The student should be able to comprehend information that is being presented and communicate their thoughts to be easily understood by their teachers and peers.
Q. What can families do if they have a concern about their child’s speech?
A. If you should have a concern about your child’s speech and language development you can contact Mr. Lien (Special Education Coordinator) and he will have a speech pathologist complete a screening to determine if a comprehensive speech and language evaluation is warranted.
Q. What do you love a best about your job?
A. I absolutely love my colleagues that I work with! I adore the children that I work with too. It is so rewarding that I can use my professional skills and ultimately improve the life of a child!
