The Food Forest (funded by DDOT) is still on track to come to Langley this Fall. Landscape Architect, Lincoln Smith designed these sketches after speaking with our Garden Committee leaders, FoodPrints and school administration. Langley has also received a grant from the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation who will work closely with Lincoln Smith, our leadership team and PTSA volunteers to make the food forest possible. We are working towards a volunteer day on Sunday, Nov. 1st when we will plant these trees and shrubs in the ground. Stay tuned for final details when we have everything confirmed.

We are thrilled to welcome all new and returning Langley Tiger Families. We love our school family and want to make everyone feel welcome and prepared for the new school year.
Especially if your child is starting PreK-3 and attending school for the first time, we know firsthand that the transition to school is both exciting and hard. So, we thought we'd answer some of the questions that we had when we were joining the Langley community. Most importantly, if you have any questions, no matter how big or small, email langleypta101@gmail.com. That address is monitored by our four PTO officers: the president, vice president, treasurer and secretary - these individuals know our community inside and out and can get you your answers, or direct you to the person who can. We are having virtual "meet ups" for new parents to connect and ask questions of current parents. Email us if you are interested in joining and we will send you the zoom link. About Langley What makes Langley special? Our vision is that every student feels loved, challenged, and prepared to positively influence society and thrive in life. We care about the whole child, and their emotional development is just as important to us as their academic growth, especially during the crucial early years when developing pro-social behavior is so critical. We aim to provide a safe, nurturing, loving home-away-from-home where the learning comes more easily, because the children's emotional needs are met first. We are a community school! Parents, teachers, EVERYONE is very engaged. There are lots of opportunities to contribute and participate. You will not go long before every member of our community, from the principal to fellow parents know your child's name and what they're all about. What is Conscious Discipline? Are you following your teacher's Instagram accounts? Many are posting daily updates, the links to their distance learning websites, suggested schedules, helpful resources and much more!

DCPS Summer Bridge for Grades 3 DC Public Schools (DCPS) will offer a special in-person program for students this summer. To help our students as they transition into the next school year, DCPS will hold a Summer Bridge program for Langley ES students entering grades 3. Summer Bridge will take place in-person at schools for two weeks, as long as health conditions allow. The dates and times, with lunch provided, are: • Monday, August 10 to Thursday, August 13 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. • Monday, August 17 to Thursday, August 20 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Summer Bridge 2020 for grades 3, 6, and 9 will be an introduction to what school life will be like as DCPS moves to a hybrid learning model due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students will build relationships as they engage in a variety of academic and social-emotional learning activities designed to prepare them for success as they transition to the next grade. Students will be introduced to new health protocols, including social distancing, and masks will be provided daily and required at all times. Read more about how we are keeping students and staff safe in the Summer Bridge FAQ. Students must be enrolled in their DCPS school for SY20-21 before signing up for Summer Bridge. Visit enrolldcps.dc.gov to complete that step. DCPS Summer Bridge is subject to change depending on public health conditions. Students entering grades 3, 6, or 9 in SY20-21 can enroll using this link: https://dcgov.seamlessdocs.com/f/DCPS_SummerBridge_SY20_21_EnrollmentFormEnglish If you have questions, please contact your school or email SummerBridge@k12.dc.gov. |
