The Office of the State Superintendent (OSSE) recently released the second annual citywide School Report Card that includes information about how every public school in DC performed in School Year 2018-2019. At Langley Elementary School, we are focused on ensuring every student receives an excellent education. This letter provides an overview of our results this year and background information on the Report Card and STAR Framework.
For the 2018-2019 school year, our school received a rating of 2 Stars. This means we improved from 14.27 points, a Level 1 score to 32.07, a Level 2 score making an over 17-point increase and doubling our score in one year. We are one of a handful of schools across the city that improved a whole STAR rating in on year, we are very proud of our students and teachers for their perseverance and hard work. We are now only 8 points away from a Level 3 score.
Our rating of 2 Stars indicates that we have much to celebrate as a school community, including strong student achievement. We’re proud of the high-quality education we provide our students and the great things happening in our school. Last year we were able to increase the students scoring at the proficient and advanced levels of the PARCC assessment by double digit gains in both ELA and Math. We could not have realized these improved results without the support of our entire community, and we look forward to continuing to build on these results this year.
We are committed to continue Langley’s rise to the top and will continue our laser-like focus on social emotional and academic learning for all students and utilize our ESSA funding for the next 1.5 years to move even faster. Our team works hard each and every day to improve outcomes for all of our students. To understand more about our focus areas as a school, please review our Comprehensive School Plan (CSP) Snapshots available online at https://dcps.dc.gov/snapshots. This snapshot shares our strategies for improvement and student success.
If you have additional questions about the STAR Rating Framework, please find a quick overview on the back of this page. In addition, please join us at our next school event, the January PTA meeting on Wednesday, January 8 from 6:00-7:30pm in the PD room, where I will be available to answer questions. If you cannot attend, or if there are any questions our team of educators can answer, please chat with me at the door or email me at email@example.com.
Sincerely, Vanessa Drumm Principal, Langley Elementary School
