Autism Awareness Month
We are proud to serve as a district wide site for four Communication Education Support (CES) programs next year at Langley. Most students in our classrooms have autism. Below are some facts to learn more from our wonderful teachers Ms. Collins & Ms. Watson!
Autism now affects 1 in 68 children
Autism is one of the fastest-growing developmental disorders in the U.S.
Boys are nearly five times more likely than girls to be diagnosed with autism
There is no medical detection or cure for autism
Autism impacts the normal development of the brain in the areas of social interaction, communication skills, and cognitive function. Individuals with autism typically have difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions, and leisure or play activities.
Langley School News Newsletter Langley Mission: Our mission is to foster caring and resilient problem solvers and thinkers through rigorous and joyful learning experiences provided in a loving school family.
About 40% of children with autism do not speak. About 25%–30% of children with autism
have some words at 12 to 18 months of age and then lose them. Others might speak, but
not until later in childhood.
Autism greatly varies from person to person (no two people with autism are alike)
Enrollment 2018-19
Please stop by the main office to re-enroll as soon as possible for 2018-2019 – it is now open! We have not yet been given a date for after-school enrollment, which is usually in early May, but as a
reminder, students first need to be registered for school before they can register for after-school.
Please help Langley by enrolling early so we can secure more funding for our school and plan for
next year. We will be open this coming Saturday May 5 from 9am-12pm so come on down to
enroll!
Wishing you well!
