Kindergarten - 5th Grade
The K-5 learning at Langley builds upon the foundation set in early childhood. Students learn grade level content with their peers but also have time set aside for small group instruction where teachers can support students at their level.
Students are immersed in their unit study for 6-8 weeks; students read fiction and nonfiction texts for each unit with their teacher and class to have in depth discussions.
Examples include: The American Revolution, Inventions through Time, Flight, Animal Habitats, and Civil Rights.
Fundations, Passport to Learning, Lucy Calkins Writers’ Workshop, Pioneer Valley guided reading sets and Fountas and Pinnell guided reading sets
For students struggling in reading we have staff trained in Reading Recovery and Leveled Literacy Intervention to help close those gaps and get students back to grade level.
Math and Science Instruction
Students spend about 2 hours per day in math and science learning.
